WE ARE MORE THAN MUSIC

WE ARE OWN DEVELOPMENT

Colombia’s pacific litoral has been especially hit by violence. PACIFICARTE was born of out the need to provide children and youth with more options for development through art. Pacificarte is located in Buenaventura, a coastal city with over 65% of the population living under the poverty line.

Our Casa Musical and Escuela Musical del Pacifico were born to teach our children that there are other alternatives to violence. Before the COVID-19 pandemic we had the capacity of attending to 120 children a day with music education.

Our objectives:

  • Restore the violated rights of boys, girls and young people, through an intervention model that uses music as a tool for the reconstruction of the social fabric.

  • Formally train Afro-Colombian musicians to have a real carreer.

  • Provide a space for the celebration and circulation (especially for children) of Afro-Colombian Heritage

Our intervention lines:

Pacificarte has focused on three main action lines:

  • Casa Musical, gives primary support to boys, girls, and young people, using music as a tool to reconstruct social fabric. We aim to build critical thinking and strengthening identity.

  • Escuela Musical del Pacífico, which focuses on high-quality music education, as of today 72 youth have finished a technical degree in music, and they are now teaching in the school.

  • A third line of action is an annual festival where children, youth and adults come together to celebrate Afro-Colombian Heritage.
